About the Speaker:
Fernando A. Small currently serves as the IT Director for Access and Revenue Cycle at MD Anderson Cancer Center. In this role, his teams support all technical and system related workflows related to patient scheduling, registration, financial clearance, hospital admissions, bed management/transfers, HIM, hospital billing and claims, professional billing and claims, payment/collections, and managed care contracting. During his 5 year tenure at MD Anderson, Fernando has worked closely with all aspects of institutional revenue cycle and financial operations. Prior to joining MD Anderson, Fernando supported revenue cycle optimization efforts as a consultant with Accenture, LLP, a global management consulting firm. While there, he worked to implement Epic and led process improvement initiatives for various hospital and health care clients. Fernando currently holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Houston, and a doctoral degree in Management, Policy and Community Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center – School of Public Health.
